Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus...
and boy is he pissed!

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Santa Claus will receive $5,000 in compensation from the Danish air force after an F-16 fighter jet frightened one of his reindeers to death.

Professional Danish Santa, Olavi Niikanoff, complained to the air force after a reindeer died with fright when a jet roared over the field where his animals were grazing, air force spokesman Captain Morten Jensen told Reuters.

"We acknowledge it was our fault and we have to pay compensation," Jensen said, adding that the air force regularly paid out sums of money to compensate for animals that die of fright when planes boom overhead.
Now if the U.S. would just admit to that incident with the Easter Bunny at Area 51,
we could really start to heal as a people.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - U.S. and Iraqi authorities freed 500 detainees from the notorious Abu Ghraib prison on Monday in a goodwill gesture to Sunnis ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Earlier, insurgents killed at least 10 people with a suicide bomb targeting police and government workers.

After a brief ceremony outside the prison on the outskirts of Baghdad, the 500 freed detainees left the area on public buses. They were the first of 1,000 to be freed before Ramadan begins next week, the U.S. military said.

Gee, your mother must be so proud....

Pfc. Lynndie England (L) walks with her mother Terri England at Fort Bragg in North Carolina in this August 3, 2004 file photo. England was found guilty on September 26, 2005 of abusing prisoners at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison in a scandal that caused international outrage.

England, 22, was found guilty of one count of conspiracy, four counts of maltreating detainees and one count of committing an indecent act. She was acquitted on a second conspiracy count.

The jury of five male Army officers took about two hours to reach its verdict. Her case now moves into the sentencing phase, which will determined by the same jury. She faces a maximum 10 years in prison.

Negativlandland
September 09 2005 - October 22 2005

Negativland, pioneers in everything from mash-up music to copyfighting, and co-authors of portions of the Creative Commons, are having a 25 year retrospective in New York City starting this Friday, September 9th, at the Gigcantic Artspace. The "theme" is a twisted, insane theme park of Negativland creations both old and new, and if you're within a few hundred miles you have no excuse not to go. As a bonus, pretty much all the members will be there for a reception this Friday."
Viewers will find appropriations of Disney ventures - such as a reconfigured Lincoln from the Hall of Presidents, and a video remix of the Little Mermaid, merged with the angry telephone recording of a Disney studio executive. Anecdotes about the media and entertainment industries are expressed in such work as the discovery of "Howland Island," and ideas of approaching stores such as Petco as an art supplies depot. Other work includes a set of limited edition prints from Negativland's 2002 "Death Sentences" project.

Also on view will be an unauthorized special edition of a U2 vs. Negativland ipod (version 2G), created by Francis Hwang. Hwang produced this modified ipod in commemoration of the 1991 lawsuit filed by U2's record label against Negativland and SST for the release of their album "U2." The first edition of this ipod was originally offered for sale on ebay in December of 2004, and was removed from the auction website six days after Apple Computer claimed that Hwang was violating Apple's intellectual property rights.

I used to live in a country where the law world only allow the use of deadly force
in the face of deadly force....What happened to Us, Eh ?

""Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco said the 300 troopers from the Arkansas National Guard had been authorised to open fire on "hoodlums'' who have been terrorising the flooded city in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Their deployment came amid intense criticism of the government for a tardy response to the disaster, which is feared to have killed thousands of people and left hundreds of thousands more stranded and homeless.

"These troops are fresh back from Iraq, well trained, experienced, battle tested and under my orders to restore order in the streets,'' Blanco said.

"They have M-16s and they are locked and loaded.

"These troops know how to shoot and kill and they are more than willing to do so if necessary and I expect they will,'' said Blanco.""
